Ten cherry-filled pastry tubes stack into a triangular cake under tangy sour cream frosting. The cherries need draining and the pastry needs cooling before assembly. Layer four, three, two and one tube so each tier supports the next. A long chill softens the tubes enough to cut across them for the striped tree-shaped slices. Cream butter with pastry sugar and eggs, mix in 200 g sour cream, flour and baking powder; chill 30 minutes. Divide into ten portions, roll thin strips, place 30 g drained cherries and a little cherry sugar down each, then seal seams. Set seams down on a lined tray and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20 to 25 minutes until golden; cool completely.
